In India PATH has developed a diverse portfolio of public health programming in the fields of Immunization, Infectious and Vector Borne Diseases, Health Technology Commercialization, Vaccine Development and Introduction, HIV and Sexual & Reproductive Health, Maternal & Newborn Health and Nutrition.

PATH invites applications from senior social science researchers for the position of Social Scientist based at New Delhi to provide intellectual leadership to behavior and social research activities with an aim to explore socio-cultural, service delivery, clinical, policy, cost and related issues to inform program design.

Responsibilities:
-Design research activities (qualitative and or quantitative) to identify social and behavioral factors affecting health seeking habits, barriers to accessing preventive and curative health services, behavioral factors that act as barriers for the provision of services and to identify barriers at all levels (policy, service provisions and community) to absorb new technologies within the system.
-Develop research protocols, data gathering tools, process for institutional review,
-Facilitate training for the research activities and quality control measures to be implemented during the research activities.

-Design program evaluation studies to assess the impact of the intervention using quantifiable measures.
-Disseminate findings from activities (research and interventions implemented) nationally and internationally through reports, manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, media reports, presentations at meetings and conferences.
-Provide technical assistance needed to execute project work plans, which may include supervising external consultants.

Required Skills:
-Knowledge and demonstrable skills in a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods to develop research protocols, data collection tools, process for institutional review, organize and conduct training and data gathering activities, data synthesis and analysis, quality control measures and report writing.
-Good computer skills/ past experience of using quantitative/qualitative software.
-Excellent oral and writing skills in English.
-Demonstrated ability to write and edit scientific papers and submit for publication in national and international peer review journals.
-Field oriented and comfortable with a team approach to programming. Team-focused with the ability to interact with diverse colleagues, and facilitate strong working relationships between partners.
-Ability to work in multiple socio-economic settings and with multi-cultural groups in India.
-Ability to manage several major activities simultaneously, meet short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
-Ensure timely, accurate and appropriate reporting of program activities.
-Willing to travel and willing to stay out of home for short periods of
time.

Preferred Skills:
-Fluency in one or more language spoken in India.
-Edit reports, scientific papers and proposals to donors.
-Ability to develop material for general audience utilizing scientific
and technical content.

Required Qualifications:
-PhD in a social or behavioral science, with post-doctoral experience in health research and a minimum of eight years of experience in public health or related field. Also required are:
-Experience with an international development organization and/or on multi-country projects.
-In-depth knowledge of at least one programmatic area of health.
-Track record in supervising research team/s
-Experience in both qualitative and quantitative health research, in areas such as community health, community needs assessment, health promotion or health policy, as well as other social/behavioral areas of health research.
-Strong research profile and an internationally recognized publication record.
